Can you help me with my kayaking in Peru?
Question by Ishbel_anne: Can you help me with my kayaking in Peru?
My sister asked a question for me, I am using her account I don’t use this site. I got the Huaraz replies which were very nice, thank you guys you were great.
My second question was regarding white water kayaking in Peru. Could you help me out? this is a special interest trip we would like it to be level 6+ which is high difficulty. I am traveling with some friends, we are experienced kayakers we don’t need to hire equipment. We are thinking a good area is along the full flow of the Amazon River, a trip like J. Cousteau once did. Starting in the Apurimac River and ending the trip in Manaus Brazil. Of course we would need some where we may get food & supplies. We’d like to stay with native communities we are physicians, we are taking medical aid & our equipment. Once in large cities a hotel would be great. When going from Iquitos to Manaus we would love to stay in jungle lodges. Some links & information if you please?
Thanks a lot.
I was leaving out the most important matter, we would very much like to hire a guide for the whole trip. Thanks again.
Forgetting again: We have done the Yangtze, Mekong, Okobongo, Nile & Congo Rivers we are used to rough areas.

Well Since you’re an experienced kayaker maybe the Colca river in Arequipa is great for you. On these months it’s very high because of the rains in the Andean region, normally lot of flooding and “huaicos” (an violent avalanche of water, mud landslides and everything the river passes through) occur so you should check if kayaking is open right now.
For the Apurimac-Amazon experience which sounds great I would ask you to double check at the http://www.peru.info site to see if it is safe. You have to use the Ene river which is normally related to narcotraffic and terrorism!
Good luck!

I went to Lunahuana in Cañete and it was fantastic! we went in August but the natives told us that the best time for kayaking and white water rafting is May (but you have to be good at it since the water levels are really high). It is a small place but very cozy, they also give tons of free samples of Pisco (liquor). I loved it!
