It is true that Cuenca, Ecuadorians hate Americans? How can that be when Cuenca, Ecuador is suppose to be one of the great places to retire and live comfortably? What’s the crime rate there against Americans? I’m planning to move there by May of 2011. What electrical power there? I’ll be bringing my musical instrument. Can I raise a family there, and what’s the school system like there?

Ecuadorians in general do not hate Americans. They are very welcoming and there is very little crime directed specifically at Americans. Foreigners can be targeted by criminals because they think you have money, but by taking common precautions you can avoid this.
Plus when Americans treat the people and culture with respect it is highly appreciated by Ecuadorians. Many have family in the US and most realize the benefits Americans and other foreigners bring to the economy.
Electric power is the same as in the US. 120V
My parents brought four kids to Ecuador and we had a great time. Public schools in general aren’t the greatest, but there are some great private schools, even English school popping up. Just make it clear you want your kids to learn and not just get by because they are “gringos”.
My site has a lot of info on moving to Ecuador…
