How long is enough to travel through Brazil?
Question by Danny: How long is enough to travel through Brazil?
I am planning on going to Brazil this summer. I have never been there, so the problem is that I don’t know how to distribute the time per each place I want to visit. For example, so far, I am planning to give 6 nights for Salvador, 4 nights for Belo Horizonte and Ouro Preto, 11 nights for Rio de Janeiro, 7 nights for Sao Paulo and 7 nights for Fortaleza and Jericoacoara beach.
In Salvador I want to meet the followers of Iemanja, the fishermen, participate in some rituals like throwing yellow roses in the ocean, etc.
In Belo Horizonte I don’t really want to do much, except for visiting Ouro Pretu and learning about Minas Gerais food, music and culture.
In Rio de Janeiro I wanna hit the Ipanema, meet a lot of people, hang out with possible new friends. Check out Corcovado, Sugar Loaf and possibly the Iguasu Falls.
In Sao Paulo, I wanna hit the night life, the parks, the churches, the downtown, etc.
In Fortaleza I wanna explore the beaches, the dunes, ride jeeps, boats, learn some surfing.
Please, if you’ve traveled through Brazil, or if you know a thing or two about first time traveling, share your knowledge!
Also, I am going to travel by myself, but I’ve connected with some people at couchsurfing.com
Thank you!

Take care on Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil is really peaceful, but Rio de Janeiro is an exception-city.
Don’t walk on empty streets while night in São Paulo (and don’t even think of dressing with a “gay style” or “emo”. If you do, you will risk your life, as a lot of people in São Paulo are really homophobic).
Don’t scream on streets: “I has an iPhon LolZ really gud iea lolz hahssss” (many tourists say sh*t like that on streets and go back home crying saying “I got robbed – brazil dangerous” and bla bla bla).
The time you want to stay is fine. Have a good trip!

Hi Danny! I´m brazilian, and I really want to help you in your trip!
I don´t know how much money or time you´re planning to stay here in Brasil, but I´m going to make you a travel guide based on the places you wanna visit for 1 month. And I´ll also include some places I think you should visit.
Brazil is a very very large country, so you won´t be able to see everything just in one trip…
Here is a map of brazil: http://www.portalsaofrancisco.com.br/alfa/brasil-mapas/
First of all, you should go to south of Brazil, like Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná. You said you wanna see the Iguaçu Falls, and it´s in Paraná, not in Rio de Janeiro. Here are some pictures of Foz do Iguaçu, in Paraná. http://www.google.com.br/images?hl=pt-BR&q=foz+do+igua%C3%A7u&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=TZFWTZ_1CcGs8Aa7pYj-Bg&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4&ved=0CF8QsAQwAw&biw=1152&bih=773
If you go to Foz do Iguaçu, you can stay at Cassino Foz do Iguaçu Hotel, witch is a good hotel ando not much expensive. In Foz do Iguaçu you should go do Iguaçu Falls, you can go rafting, you also can visit Birds Park (if you like), and if you like adventure, you can go to Macuco Safari. I recomend you to stay at least 3 days on Foz do Iguaçu to make sure you see everything you want to. http://www.feriasbrasil.com.br/pr/fozdoiguacu/oqueverefazer.cfm
Then, you can go to Sao Paulo. I live in Sao Paulo, and here you have lots of options of everything. You can visit parks like hopi hari or Playcenter http://www.hopiharionline.com.br/Produto/13564/Passaporte-Janeiro/?gclid=CKKpu9PngqcCFa5k7AodMn12gw (our version of disneyworld..)
There are lots of museuns (Museo da Arte Moderna, Museo do Ipiranga, Museo da Arte Contemporanea, Museo Brasileiro da Escultura, Estaçao Ciencia, Pavilhao das culturas barsileiras), parks (Ibirapuera is the best park in Sao Paulo), there is a zoo also. You should visit the Center Cathedral, 25 de Março street, Mercado Municipal, Teatro Municipal, Oscar Freire street, Vila Madalena (you can have lunch there).
There´s a lot of places to go out at night in Sao Paulo, like (Asia 70, Boogie, Buddha Bar, Lanterna, A Loca, Secret, Pucci, Vila Country….)
You should stay in sao paulo at least 5 days.
Then you can go to Rio de Janeiro, where you can visit Corcovado, Pao de Açucar, Ipanema, Jardim Botanico, Maracana…. You should spend one day in Buzios and one day in Angra dos Reis. (4 days Rio, + 1 Angra dos Reis +1 Buzios = 6 days)
Then you can go to Minas Gerais. I´ve never been to Ouro Preto, but I know there are some places to visit like Parque Horto dos Contos, Estaçao Ecologica Tripui, Parqeu Municipal da Cachoeira das Andorinhas, Pico do Itacolomi, Represa Santa Rita. (I think 3 days is enough in Minas)
Then You really shoul do to Bahia – Salvador, tou can go to Pelourinho, Lacerda Elevator and, of course the beachs. (5 days)
After that you can go to Fortaleza (Ceara). It´s really beatiful, lots of beachs and places to go out at night. You could spend 4 days in Fortaleza, so that you have 4 days more to visit Fernando dde Noronha. Fernando de Noronha is an island, reaaly good to surf and to dive.
If you have more time (and money), you should go to Pantanal e Bonito (both on Mato Grosso do Sul). If you wanna go to Bonito and Pantanal, you should go after visit Parana (Foz do Iguaçu) and before you go to Sao Paulo (so that you´ll save money and time).
I hope you enjoy your trip, and if you want, send me an email, so I can help you more (add me here in yahoo profile, and I´ll give you my email).
