Question by Gabs: How to get from Lima to Cuzco, Peru?
I dont want to fly because I can get an inexpensive ticket to Lima, I ultimately want to see Lima and then Machu Picchu… Does a train run that route? What is the fastest way to go? How long will a bus take?

There is NO train from Lima to Cuzco. There are buses but it could be dangerous and it takes like 16 hours to reach Cuzco through winding dirt roads. Why not flying? It is not that expensive. There is Lan Peru, Taca Peru, AeroCondor, Wayra which could take you there for 70 dollars or less.
The train goes from Cuzco to Machu Picchu, not from Lima to Cuzco.Check this website, it is the best to get cheap tickets within Latin America:

Flying is the best way for you to go. Lots of times you can find deals that include Lima and Cuzco. Check with a travel agent or online.
The flight from LIma to Cuzco is very interesting. I love flying over the mountains.

Flying from Lima to Cuzco is done early morning as it gets to cloudy in the afternoon to land….I really would suggest using this option as a bus will take about 3-7 days and can be very dangerous. Along with accidents that occur because of the mountains and the fact that the buses are not the standard Greyhound beauties there have recently been a couple robberies on busses (both from ppl inside and ppl outside) and the price between a plane and a bus is about 40 bucks. Also there are no train routes. I am not trying to scare you by telling you this since I love Peru….but reasonably thinking 30 tourist on a bus for 5 days in remote areas is asking to be robbed anywhere.
