Question by Rico: Puerto Montt Chile, any travel tips or recommendations?
Planning a trip in the fall to Chile and over to Argentina and I will have a stay in Puerto Montt. Can anyone suggest a moderate type hotel? Any local things to do while there?

The Melia Patagonia is probably your best bet. You can read up on them (and others in the area) here:

Good luck!

Get a ‘Lonely Planet Guide ‘ book and see what is available for your budget. I was there twice a few years ago and it is a delightful place. Be sure to eat the ‘corranta’ seafood soup, it contains chunks of smoked sausage and large barnacles that taste like crab.
There are excursions by boat south to the glaciers while on the return part you could get off at Chakabuco (sp) and catch a twelve hour bus across to Commodore Rivadavia Argentina or. . .From Pto Montt one can take the bus and do the lakes crossing to Bariloche, I also did that and it was a good experience.
